Chapter 7
Governance: Managing the Nonfinancials
It is not the equipment, idea, or even the
product that makes a company successful, but the people—employees,
customers, and board members. As a business owner, one of your biggest
challenges will be managing the people that you work with. Your ability
to convey the company’s culture, mission, values, and vision is a test
of your leadership abilities, and this starts with your first hire or
those you choose as your advisors and partners. Your goal in employee
management is to be able to carry along all employees to see the vision
and for them to understand what it is they contribute to the company’s
growth. Having said that, being able to carry everyone along requires
that they all benefit from the success of your company. If you want a
bird to lay a golden egg, you have to treat the bird as golden................
